OUR MISSION
Developing and maturing believers while reaching others through the preaching and teaching of God's word-- sharing God's love in Polkville and beyond.
OUR VISION
To be a church driven by our mission, living out the Great Commission and Great Commandment as we love and serve the people God places before us.
Our Roots Run Deep
Members of PMC help begin construction of the present sanctuary, October 13, 1950.
Our history is important to us—but we believe God is still writing our story.
Polkville Methodist Church has been part of the Polkville community for more than 130 years. Established as a local church in 1894 after separating from the Double Shoals Circuit, generations of members have worshiped, served, and grown in faith here.
Our first church was a simple one-room white frame building, heated by a pot-bellied stove with no electricity or plumbing. After it burned on Christmas Day in 1921, the congregation rebuilt—and continued growing.
Our present stone sanctuary was built in the early 1950s with 600 tons of stone hauled from the Lake James area. Church members gave their money and their labor--even helping dig the footings pictured here-- and held chicken pie suppers to help fund its construction. The first worship service in the new sanctuary was held August 3, 1952.
More than a century later, that same spirit of faith, service, and community continues at Polkville Methodist Church.
A New Chapter
In 2023, Polkville Methodist Church voted to disaffiliate from The United Methodist Church and continue its ministry as an independent congregation. Following a three-year transition period, the church became fully autonomous in July 2026. While our name and denominational relationship have changed through the years, our commitment to worship, faith, service, and the Polkville community remains at the heart of who we are.
Who We Are Today
Polkville Methodist Church is a small congregation with a big heart for God and our community. We are a church where generations worship together, where there is room for everyone, and where serving our neighbors is part of who we are.
As we look toward the future, we are excited to grow in faith, welcome new faces, and continue serving the Polkville community we have called home for more than 130 years.
There’s a place for you here.
